The Fund for Santa Barbara announces $290,030 in Movement Building Grants

The FUND is excited to announce that our 2024 Grant Awards Celebration is returning this summer on August 14th, 2024. We will be honoring our 2024 Racial Equity Fund, Multi-year and Single-year Movement Building Grant recipients. The goal of the celebration is to bring community members and partners together to learn about the incredible progressive work being done across our county, mingle and have fun!

 The Movement Building Grant Program funds groups and/or organizations at the forefront of movement building to create systemic change throughout our county. The Racial Equity Fund of the County of Santa Barbara is a partnership with the County of Santa Barbara that aims to invest in and strengthen organizations that address anti-racism through systems change strategies in our county. This fund supports systems change necessary to advance racial equity and justice.

Continued funding to support the stabilization of the Self Healing Communities project, to engage the community, build leadership and self-determination, and begin to address the unrecognized and untreated trauma in the Lompoc community.

Gateway Educational Services – Parent Empowerment for Equitable Education – $15,000

Continued support of Healing Justice SB’s (HJSB) operating costs and salaries for organizers, to ensure the sustainability of HJSB’s anti-racism through systems change work to uplift all Black/African-Americans to affirm safety, love, equity, respect, and joy.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee, Santa Barbara – MLKSB Racial Equity Initiative – $48,300

Funding will support Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee’s programs and staff expansion to continue to increase racial equality; increase understanding and relations between ethnically, diverse cultures, and advocate for policy change.

NAACP Santa Barbara – Black Women’s Health Equity Conference and Non-Violence Response Training for Youth – $7,500

Funding will support the first Black Women’s Health Conference on April

One Community Action of Santa Maria Valley – Stop the Hate: Santa Maria 4 All – $30,000

Funding to support OCA’s Stop the Hate Program in engaging community members who have been victims and survivors of hate incidents and hate crimes to create an inclusive city for all.

Santa Barbara Asian American Pacific Islander Solidarity Network (SBAAPISN)-Lunar New Year Celebration/Chinatown Lost – $18,380

National Association For the Advancement of Colored People, Santa Maria – Lompoc Branch -Santa Maria – Lompoc NAACP Equity Projects – $30,000

Funding will support the NAACP Santa Maria-Lompoc branch work to dismantle systems of racism, oppression, and discrimination and address systems that perpetuate racism, discrimination, and hatred by through the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, Black History events, Juneteenth Celebrations and antiracism work in county schools. www.santamarialompocnaacp.org

Planned Parenthood California Central Coast – Public Affairs Part – Time Community Organizer Intern – $30,000

American Association of University Women Lompoc – Vandenberg branch – Dual Language Nonpartisan Candidate Forums in Lompoc – $10,000 Funding will support two nonpartisan dual language candidate forums in Lompoc for City Council (seats in Districts 1 and 4) and Mayor (at large) and School Board (4 of 5 seats) races. Community members will be able to participate in person at city hall or via Zoom. Both options will provide live interpretation. Awakening Giantz – Awakening Leaders – $5,530

Continued support for the Awakening Leaders program for young adults who are exiting or have been impacted by the foster care system. Awakening Leaders provides leadership development workshops, resources and a community of mentors that empower and cultivate a sense of belonging for these young adults.

Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) – Farmworkers Leadership and Labor Justice – $10,000

Continued support to sustain and expand MICOP’s Community Organizing Department, focusing on labor justice advocacy, prevention of wage theft, and leadership development among indigenous migrants. Funds will go towards Community Organizer staff positions, transportation costs, program supplies, and other operating expenses.

Santa Barbara NAACP – Community Dialogue Series – $10,000

Funding will support the Community Dialogue Series to develop a foundation for an action agenda through dialogue and views exchange. Funds will support a Youth Dialogue and training for community dialogue facilitators to host future series.

Savie Health – Expansion of Savie’s Promotora Model Program Operations – $10,000

Funds will support the expansion the current Promotora model by creating an Advisory Board consisting of Promotores/patients who will evaluate feedback obtained from surveys, assess the clinic’s current programs, and use the information to recommend changes, based upon their own lived experiences and knowledge of their community.

SBACT – Homelessness Lived Experience Working Group – $10,000 Continued support to expand advocacy efforts of the Homelessness Lived Experience Working Group by leveraging their stories for policy change, advocating for increased funding for inclement weather shelters, and providing policy education to their peers. Funds will fund a “Lived Experience Leader” to facilitate and plan advocacy campaigns and policy education for individuals experiencing homelessness, and providing peer mentorship to other individuals with lived experience of homelessness as they take leadership roles.
