NatureTrack Demonstrates How Wheelchair Users Can Get Back to Nature with Freedom Trax – Giving All Access on the Beach a New Look

By Giving List Staff   |   January 9, 2022
See these joy-stick propelled devices in action on Hendry’s Beach. Momentum4Work will have five (5) wheelchair users at this month’s outing.

On the second Sunday of every month, NatureTrack, whose mission is to connect kids to nature is collaborating with Explore Ecology for its monthly Beach Clean Up at Arroyo Burro (Hendry’s Beach). Expanding its mission from connecting kids to nature to include people in wheelchairs and all at no cost courtesy of NatureTrack, is such a gift to our county.

From 10 AM to Noon, NatureTrack will have six Freedom Trax devices available for wheelchair users to use on a first-come, first-served basis. This is an apparatus that quickly and easily converts a manual wheelchair into a battery-powered, all-terrain vehicle allowing those users to traverse beach sand and trails independently.

There is no cost to use the Freedom Trax, courtesy of NatureTrack, which will also have two manual wheelchairs available for transfer should your wheelchair not fit on the device. We would appreciate an RSVP no later than Friday, January 7.

Explore Ecology will be hosting their monthly beach cleanup at the same time! Now, wheelchair users can help keep our beaches beautiful!  Contact and reserve one of the devices if you’d like to be part of the beach clean-up.

Mission

NatureTrack is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to provide outdoor field trips for school-aged children at no cost to the schools or students.

Begin to Build a Relationship

We know you care about where your money goes and how it is used. Connect with this organization’s leadership in order to begin to build this important relationship. Your email will be sent directly to this organization’s director of development and/or Executive Director.

NatureTrack connects children with the wonders of the natural world. By exposing them to nature, engaging their curiosity, and inspiring a love for the outdoors, NatureTrack instills the land ethic essential for appreciating and conserving our environment. It’s a vital gateway to Santa Barbara County’s ‘great outdoors’ for our youth, many of whom don’t have the access my generation may have taken for granted. Supporting NatureTrack is about ensuring the future of everything we cherish about this place we call home.

Give Everyone Access to Nature

Transportation is NatureTrack’s largest cost, and it keeps rising. Your donations help fund field trips and provide more Freedom Trax.

    •$7,500 funds a field trip for 100 K-12 students

•$6,500 buys a new Freedom Trax

Any donation amount is appreciated to support our mission. Field trips fill up quickly each year, highlighting our need for more volunteers. Docents play a crucial role with a 5-to-1 student-to-docent ratio. Your contribution, whether financial or as a volunteer has a meaningful impact. Please donate or volunteer today, or both!
