Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and Soka Gakkai International Host Choose Hope Symposium in Santa Barbara, with Kelly Lecture by Annie Jacobsen

By Giving List Staff   |   February 7, 2025

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (NAPF) and Soka Gakkai International (SGI) are excited to present the Choose Hope Symposium, featuring Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen as the keynote speaker. The event, held at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, will honor the legacies of David Krieger, NAPF’s Founder and President Emeritus, and Daisaku Ikeda, SGI’s President.

On March 12 at 6:00 PM, Jacobsen will deliver the 20th Frank K. Kelly Lecture on Humanity’s Future, offering insights from her acclaimed book Nuclear War: A Scenario. Her lecture will set the tone for a series of expert panels addressing the challenges and opportunities in nuclear disarmament.

Inspired by the book Choose Hope, co-authored by Krieger and Ikeda, the symposium will explore the transformative power of hope in confronting nuclear threats. The event will bring together diplomats, academics, activists, and community leaders to discuss pathways to a nuclear-free world.

Event Highlights

  • Wednesday, March 12: 20th Frank K. Kelly Lecture by Annie Jacobsen, followed by a panel on current challenges and opportunities in nuclear disarmament.
  • Thursday, March 13: Panels on addressing nuclear deterrence, nuclear justice, youth empowerment, and the legacy of nuclear testing.
